Week 2 Dev Log: Sep. 25 - Oct.1
Pencil Pushers » Devlog
Dates: Sep. 25 - Oct.1
Decisions:
- Inventory System
- Letters picked up and held in inventory
- Words can only be spelled at “clipboards” that contain the number of blanks and a picture of the obstacle to guide the player / limit options
- Using a controller, players will be able to click on letters they want to use and undo it (like in scrabble)
- Camera Control
- Changing camera control to allow it to move around player instead of stay behind it to allow us to see Woody
- Moving Objects
- Players will be able to press and hold a key to move (push/pull) objects (instead of it just being pushable by default)
- Level design
- Swapping out stairs in initial level to a ruler puzzle in future to fit theme
- Use a spider web to block door so players can't just platform passed it
- Start Woody at a desk and “quit” being the first puzzle to teach the mechanic
- General Theme
- Office theme
- Use toon shaders on spawned elements
- Follow creative elements from Bendy and the Ink Machine
Obstacles / Things to Consider:
- How to design future levels? Concerns about the variety of words?
- What code can we re-use from the game jam for these new decisions
- How can we find a way to use the spider asset more
- Coordination of inventory with person working on spawnable objects
Progress:
- Developed a game pitch / slides for the game
- Developed a creative brief and uploaded it to the itch page
- Added textures to floors / walls instead of basic coloured materials
- Added concept art to walls as placeholders for presentation
- Imported assets missed from game jam (i.e. boot / stairs)
Screenshots (Current Game State):
